Software metrics measure static attributes based on abstractions of programs. These are inputs to models that predict quality factors. A program with high information content will probably be more difficult to understand than one with little information. Information theory offers a way to quantify the amount of information. This paper proposes a new information theory based metric, namely, the amount of information in the operators, that is closely related to Harrison's $AICC$. We also present a case study using it to predict software faults. The case study is based on two similar large commercial software systems written in assembly language, developed by the same organization.
